"Type" by Julia Rothman for Windham

 Hey there! Look what I get to work with....Type by Julia Rothman. Isn't it great? Julia Rothman made this collection for Windham fabric. I loved Miscellany so much (Cloud 9 fabric) that as soon as I heard that Julia had another collection coming out I emailed Windham at once to ask to work with it. They said yes! So now I get to make a quilt and a couple other little projects. How exciting! I have actually already begun working on the quilt. The hint I am going to give you is "circles" Yep...I think circles are the new square. I think we will all be quilting with circles in no time. I am even working on an actual quilt pattern this time. I know... I am really on a roll.

What do you say we look a little closer at some of the prints?

Old School Typewriters. Aren't they cute? 

Paper and notebooks. This could easily be a shot of my desk right now. I have paper and projects all over the place.

And what project would be complete without glasses? One set actually looks just like my quilting glasses. I knew Julia was a lady after my own heart!

And these are the smaller scale prints. Paper clips and letters. Bravo! OK, I need to go get back to my sewing machine. I think I left it on because I was just coming upstairs to grab a glass of water.

** oh, a note on this printing. This little stack that I am working with is a first run printing. The real collection may be a bit different in tone.

Between Quilts

 Hey there! I know it has been ages since I have posted, but I was quilting away on secret quilts...or at least on quilts that I can't show yet. But....since I am between quilts I decided to take the day and go have fun with my sweet kiddos.

My husband took my middle son fishing, so I took the other two out to Weston, MO. We were just wondering around the town and on the way home I drove by the Red Barn Farm...just to see what was going on. I am so thrilled I did!

 They gave us baskets and pointed towards the hillside that was covered with apple and pear trees. As you can see from the pictures the trees were pretty heavy with fruit.

 We did have to sample some of course. It was funny...I went ahead and took a bite of one of the apples  to see how sweet and ripe it was, and the kids were stunned that they could eat the apples as we picked them! I said go for it! After all how many apples can you eat while you pick? They aren't like strawberries...I can eat my weight in strawberries!

 Our eyes were much bigger than our stomachs, so we have lots of apples for pies and apple sauce. Awesome!

The older fellas caught 4 cat fish. We will be eating them tonight...along with apple pie!
I think this was the best day we have had since we moved back to Kansas...and it was in Missouri!

I have more quilts to work on, but if you have one you want me to quilt just let me know! I am accepting quilts right now.

Yet another Texas Flag quilt

 Hey there! I just finished the quilting on another Texas flag quilt. I wanted to try a couple different things with this one. I wanted to give a nod to the wonderful Texas wildflowers so I worked some whimsy vines and a long feather along the bottom.

 There is still plenty of wind, heat and pebbles, but the vines and feathers gives the whole thing a bit more softness.

 I think I am pretty happy with it. I may put this one in my etsy.com shop...or I may keep it for a sample. I will make up my mind after I bind it.

I do like the back of a quilt. Pretty pretty texture. It will be so awesome after it is washed.

Hey there! I just wanted to let you know that Angela Walters did a little interview with me over on her blog Quilting is my Therapy. I hope I don't sound like too much of a cake. I tried to get some ok pictures, but wow the basement makes taking good pictures hard.

Julie's Yellow and Gray quilt

 Hey there!

This is Julie's yellow and Gray quilt. If you know me you know my very very favorite solid color is gray. I was so thrilled to take this beautiful quilt top and back out of the box when Julie sent it to me. So much beautiful gray! Well, I had a blast quilting this one. Julie wanted me to do whatever I wanted on it...that is some wild freedom isn't it? Well, I decided to try to quilt each print with it's own design. I think that gives it a bit connection. All the dark gray places have Angela's swirls, all the light gray parts are quilted with my swirls, the yellow with white dots are quilted with paisleys and the gray with yellow dots are quilted with bubbles.

 All the bicycle spots have wood-grain quilted on them. I think I want to do an entire quilt with wood-grain.

This is the back. This one is going to be awesome after it is washed too. All that texture will shine. Do you wash all your quilts? I do. A quilt isn't finished unless it is washed. I feel strange sending out quilts untrimmed and unbound and especially unwashed.

Julie's square quilt

Hey there! Happy Monday to you. I wanted to pop in and show you a quilt I finished a couple days ago for Julie. I just finished a second one for her as well. I really like this quilt top. I have had  a couple prints of VeloCity by Jessica Hogarth in my virtual fabric basket for some time, but I fail to follow through because I can't think of how I would use it in a quilt. Well, I think Julie nailed it with this quilt. I love the Velocity city scape with the loops from Cloud9 and those big dots.

Julie wanted me to try echo boxes on one of the quilts, so I tried it on this one. The echo boxes were really fun and surprisingly fast to quilt. I thought too much echo boxes would wash the quilt out, so I added some bubbles to the yellow block centers. In my mind the yellow parts were the city parks and the bubbles were trees.

This is the back of the quilt. I think it looks great ....it is going to be AWESOME after it is washed. I used my favorite Quilter's Dream Cotton Batting in select weight.

A red cross quilt

 Hey there! How are you doing? I hope good. I made a quilt over the past couple days. As I was sorting fabric I set 3 pieces of fabric aside with plans to do something really quick and simple so I could spend some time quilting it and running my newly updated Gammill. The creamy background fabric is a flour sacking that has a terrific texture. The red and turquoise are Japanese solids that my friend bought for me when she lived in Japan. They are thicker than kona solids, but really soft and wonderful. I have been very spare with using them, but I don't know why...they are so much prettier in a quilt than they were folded up on my fabric shelf.

 I had a blast quilting the background is a series of different designs. I took a Craftsy class by Angela Walters and I wanted to try out some of her designs. Her swirls are so fabulous, but a bit tricky. I have the hang of them now. I will certainly be using them again soon!

 I quilted in some trailing whimsical vines, some bubbles and also some paisleys. I do love the vines and I really missed quilting them over the past couple months. I am so happy to have my studio all set up again!

 Angela has a great wood-grain design in her book that I wanted to try...so I put that in the center section on top of the red crosses. Wouldn't an entire quilt look fabulous quilted with just the wood-grain?

 I also wanted to try Angela's peacock feathers....I am not thrilled with how mine turned out, I will have to practice more. But overall the quilting turned out great, I think. I think I am going to give this quilt to my husband's grandmother. She is having surgery, and it may keep her warm during recovery. Or certainly brighten up her room.

This is the back. Not particularly pretty fabric, but I had a ton of it. Next up I have some client quilts to do and 3 bags orders to get back to. Back to business...almost like the move never happened.

**The block pattern I used for the red crosses can be found HERE. It is a really quick block and you can make them really wonky or not so much at all. Mine are not too crazy...just enough to wiggle a bit.
